Tokenworks’ new ID Scanner offers a streamlined design with a larger touch screen and provides new tools for managing customer relationships.

Bronxville, NY – March 26, 2012 – Tokenworks®’ new IDVisor® 310™ ID Scanner is its latest hardware platform for its industry-leading identity verification and ID scanning software. Building upon Tokenworks’ industry-leading IDVisor ID scanning platform and the customer relationship management (CRM) features introduced in the IDVisor Touch™, the new IDVisor 310 offers a significantly smaller form factor with a larger touch screen.

This new ID Scanner provides a refined hardware platform for Tokenworks’ CRM software with integrated age calculation for alcohol and/or tobacco sales. In addition to scanning barcode and magnetic stripe licenses from all 50 US States, additional customer information can be entered directly into the device using fingers on the large touch screen – no stylus or input devices required. The IDVisor 310 offers a visit counter for each customer, a scan counter with auto-increment and on-screen adjustment for venue capacity, email and phone capture. It also provides advanced tagging functions for tracking customers including custom tags, tag expiration dates and tag notes.

IDVisor 310 Hardware

The IDVisor 310 is a handheld ID Scanner. It uses the same drivers license scanning technology used in Tokenworks’ IDVisor Touch, Z22 Mobile and Z22 Countertop ID Scanners. Like the IDVisor Touch, the 310 has a unique Easy finger-on-screen keyboard that obviates a stylus for operation.

The ID Checker reads drivers’ licenses and state IDs from all 50 US states, including Georgia (from November 2009 onward). It also reads Canadian drivers’ licenses (including Quebec since February 2009) and US military IDs. It uses the same barcode scanner and swipe magnetic stripe reader currently being deployed in US police cruisers. The scans are fast and accurate, and do not have any of the drawbacks associated with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) based ID scanning technology.

The IDVisor 310 runs on battery power or off a wall charger. Built-in rechargeable and swappable Li-Ion batteries charge quickly and offer a full night of scans. Simply plug it in to charge, and use without worries. Batteries may also be easily swapped for multi-shift venues like casinos that need continuous ID scanner protection.

Integrated CRM Features: Profiles, Custom Tagging and Search

The IDVisor 310 uses the groundbreaking integrated CRM software introduced in the Tokenworks IDVisor Touch in 2011. This new breed of ID scanning technology binds together the 100% accuracy of machine-read scan data with custom user input. This allows the operator to confidently verify a customer’s age and also store critical customer information like email, phone, patronage and VIP status.

The unique tagging features on the IDVisor 310 allow for complete customer relationship management. Custom tags allow the operator to predefine the metrics that are important to their business, and to quickly classify customers while their age is being verified. Bars and nightclubs often use VIP tags to give special treatment to regular customers or Banned tags to keep out troublemakers. Liquor stores often use custom tags to collect demographic information to improve marketing and sales tactics. Casinos regularly use custom tags to manage membership and rewards programs for frequent customers. Many businesses simply use the tags to build a robust email-marketing list of current customers. All tags and data can be searched directly on the ID scanner using simple text queries, or can be exported to a computer.

Tags can be applied directly on the ID Scanner, allowing the user to ban someone right at door, or add him or her to a special VIP or customer list. Custom tags or groups can be defined directly on the ID Checker, or imported from an Excel-compatible comma separated value (CSV) file. Tags can be given expiration dates, transforming the ID Scanner into a full-fledged membership system. Use custom tags to create membership levels with unique expiration dates, or ban someone until a designated date by assigning specific tags to his or her profile.

The ID reader displays the number of visits each patron has made on the main screen. This feature is unique to the IDVisor CRM software and helps to quickly identify new and frequent visitors. A historical record of visit information for each client is also available in the database.

Users also have the ability to capture phone and email information directly on the 310 screen keyboard. Data entry is enhanced with a convenient finger-ready 9-digit keypad for phone numbers and a list of common domains for email addresses (@gmail.com, @hotmail.com, etc.). Adding customer contact information can help a business create powerful out-bound marketing programs like email and text message blasts. An Opt-In Privacy feature identifies which customers want to be included on email or text messaging lists. Traditional license information like name, address and date of birth are stored automatically when the ID is swiped.

Contact information and tags can be added when the scan is taken, or by searching for a previous scan and adding the tag later. A Guest List feature allows users to import a list of guests from an Excel compatible CSV file and record entry at the door without having to previously scan guest licenses. Dual Action VIP/Banned Lists can be set to trigger with a certain ID card or last name, allowing users to migrate old lists into the device. All together, the multiple list management features on the ID Scanner allow promoters and bouncers to know exactly who is entering their club or event.

Industry-Leading ID Scanning Technology

The IDVisor 310 is rooted in Tokenworks’ rock-solid ID scanning technology. Flexible Age Thresholds, from 18 to 45 years, are available for underage alcohol or tobacco warnings. A Scan Count feature shows the total number of scans for the night and indicates how many people have entered the venue. Customizable warnings allow the user to configure how the scanner alerts when underage, expired, banned, or rescanned IDs are swiped.

The IDVisor 310 stores scan and customer information in a true SQL database. This allows Tokenworks’ new ID checker to export an organized record scan history by customer. It also allows for easy integration into existing software platforms using SQL databases. Many alternative ID scanning products use older methods for storing information and only export raw data logs of jumbled scan data. The IDVisor 310 provides concise, accurate data critical for building customer relationships and monitoring business trends.

Various options allow clubs to customize how long data is saved on the ID Scanner, making the unit fully compliant with states that have ID Scanner data retention limitations, like Utah and Nebraska. Data can be automatically deleted after one day, seven days or 30 days, for example.

Advanced Security: Kiosk Mode

The ID Scanner has built-in security to protect sensitive customer information. Data storage is protected by strong database encryption that blocks unauthorized access. PIN code access can also be enabled to configure the ID scanner. This can restrict, for example, the operator from accessing customer information, block them from searching the database, or reconfiguring any of the device settings.

Tokenworks’ proprietary Kiosk Mode prevents the bouncer from exiting the scanning application without entering a pin code. This keeps the operator focused on the task at hand and prevents him from altering any configuration settings or accessing customer data.

On-System Tutorial and Top-Tier Customer Support

Tokenworks provides free telephone support to all ID Scanner owners. To answer common questions and acquaint the user with features, helpful system tutorials are pre-loaded directly into the IDVisor 310. These tutorials can familiarize a new user to its basic operation in just a few minutes. The ID Scanner ships with a quick-start guide, USB cable and charging cable.

Pricing and “Special Conversion Offer”

New IDVisor 310 units will retail for $1,495.00 but as an introductory special, customers can purchase them now for $1,295.00. Units are in stock and ready for shipment.

Tokenworks is offering a “Special Conversion Offer” to customers who have purchased an Eseek M310 ID Scanner from another software developer. If you have recently purchased a competitor’s M310 ID Scanning product and would like to upgrade to the Tokenworks IDVisor M310 software, Tokenworks can upgrade your ID Scanner Age Verification software for $300.00. Just send us your M310s and we will upgrade them to the latest firmware, erase the competitors’ software and install our software.

Upgrade pricing is also available for IDVisor Z22 Mobile customers. For $750.00 and the return of our IDVisor Z22 Mobile, customers can upgrade to the IDVisor 310 Scanner.

An RFid Scanner is the device which talks to or reads the RFid tag. An RFid tag is the label or item which holds the Identification number. RFid is an acronym for Radio Frequency Identification. Typically its a tag or label affixed to something like a retail package.

RFid is basically the next thing after barcodes which we all know and love. They accomplish same thing, provide unique identifying number, but use radio communications instead of line of sight optical.

There are different types of RFid tags – which means there are different types of RFid readers. Some are called passive tags which means they are not active tags. Passive tags get their power from the RFid scanner while active tags get their power from a small battery.

RFid scanning can be done with a Rfid Handheld Scanner or a stationary Rfid Scanner. Stationary RFid readers are mounted in fixed locations while mobile RFid scanners are mobile computers with hardware which can interface with the RFid tag. Some readers add additional interface technology like a barcode scanner and are called a Rfid Barcode Scanner. If a magnetic card reader is added, then it would be called a Rfid Credit Card Scanner. There are about a dozen other token reading devices attachable to a Rfid Scanner.

Smart Card Reader Initiative

In February 2007, the Smart Card Alliance formally launched an initiative called the Digital Security Initiative (DSI). The goal of the DSI is to make smart cards the preferred method to securely access digital networks. To achieve that goal, the DSI has identified a number of Obstacles/Opportunities and is developing responses to each.

Smart Card Reader infrastructure obstacles

One of the identified Obstacles is a lack of smart card reader infrastructure. While great progress has been made in the last decade, it is only recently that they are becoming standard equipment on a number of platforms. It is our vision to make smart card readers as common as PC’s floppy drives and to hasten that day, the DSI is taking a number of steps, including the attached Open Letter. This letter will be sent to the CEOs of the major hardware manufacturers, included in DSI collateral material, and potentially placed in business publications.

Please read the following Open Letter and add your organization to the list of other firms who have endorsed this effort.

The Digital Security Initiative

Open Letter to Manufacturers of Personal Computers, PDAs, Set Top Boxes and Internet Appliances

The advent of E-commerce magnifies the challenges confronting businesses to secure their digital infrastructure. Customers, providers and their partners have a vital need to accurately verify network identity. Any weakness in the verification process will inevitably lead to increased risk of fraud, data compromise and loss of client trust. As more and more aspects of everyday life come within the ambit of on-line service the greater will the need be to provide certainty and security.

Consumers’ concerns over privacy issues and the loss of control over their personal data are well documented. Individuals diligently create and seek to remember growing lists of user ids and passwords to access on-line services. They repeatedly complete registration forms replicating the same information with the expectation that the recipient company will protect it.

The purchasers and users of personal computers, PDAs, Set Top Boxes and Internet Appliances are best served when the pertinent product also alleviates the drudgery of related tasks.

Both businesses and consumers require a secure and convenient method to access each other for the exchange of data; products and services to meet their respective needs and wants.

Smart card technology provides both security and convenience. To many, this is not news. Smart card technology is mature and widely deployed. Smart cards are the ideal portable container for account, public key, and biometric information. Domestic programs by the Department of Defense, General Services Administration, American Express, Visa, numerous corporations and millions of university students attest to the viability of the technology. Internationally, countries have deployed national banking and health care smart card systems such as the 40M+ Visa smart cards in France, and 80M+ healthcare smart cards in Germany. There are over 300 million smart cards securing the GSM mobile phone network and the Industry is shipping close to two billion cards a year.

The Personal Computer industry has acknowledged the merit of smart card technology by including it as an optional element of the PC2001 System Design Guide. The industry’s most significant technology leaders openly advocate smart card technology as a solution for network identities.

2001 will have more smart card ready computing products than ever, but not nearly enough. The need for secure and convenient on-line access will continue to increase, as will the current attendant problems, unless manufacturers commit to accelerate their solution. For the benefit of consumers, end users, and businesses, it is time to address the issue by taking a simple, yet significant step:

Make smart card readers a standard feature of your products, and help unleash the promise of e-commerce.

We are confident you share our aim to provide certain, secure and simple connectivity. We pledge our collaboration for achieving it.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Current Smart Card Reader infrastructure

The smart card reader infrastructure has changed but not the extent desired by the DSI. Networks continue to rely on user ids and passwords. It was shown that smart card readers could be easily included in laptop designs and several models were introduced, but smart card readers were not adopted.

Some large corporations did deploy token based or smart card based security, but not to the extent hoped for. Those that did pioneered the technology and thus bore a large part of the development cost. Smart cards and smart card readers are an obvious solution to the open security issues, but still the world has not adopted the technology. I can only hope that my children will look at smart cards and smart card readers they way they now look at an iPhone.

Fake ID Reader

A Fake Driver’s License is easy to get, if you know how to find it. There are dozens of Internet Web sites which are listed if you search for the term – How to Get a Fake ID or Scannable Fake Id. Often they will display information about Novelty Id which are not illegal in many states and typically do NOT look like real drivers licenses.

In most college towns, there always seems to be an informal network of individuals who know sources for Fake or False drivers licenses.

Some more artistic or enterprising people search for Fake Id Template when they feel they have the expertise to create their own Fake ID. These individuals typically plan on making multiple Fake IDs and generate some revenue.

There are several youtube videos which show how to make a fake Id but often they are taken down at the request of law enforcement.

Making a Fake Passport is much more involved and a low quality fake may work to get into bars but one would really need guts to use a Fake Passport to enter a foreign country. There does not seem to be a reliable Fake Id Review on the Internet. Most Fake ID reviews are just thinly veiled claims of their manufactures and its no wonder as law enforcement would certainly try to close down a large site.

For those interested in ordering a Fake ID in China, here is a cautionary tale.

Sophomore Arrested for Ordering 42 Fake IDs

Anthony Johnson, Class of 2013, was arrested on Tuesday after a package he ordered containing 42 fake IDs was intercepted by law enforcement. He went into the scheme with a group of friends, who each ordered two cards. He has been suspended from school until his court date in June, and charged with 42 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree. Johnson is quoted as saying at the time of his arraignment, “I ordered the IDs online because there’s a lot of places around school where you need to be 21.”

And here is another story which should make you think twice before ordering a Fake ID:

Students’ fake ID’s stopped at U.S. customs

The music is blasting, you feel a bit tipsy and you’re ready to have one of the best nights of your life, whether sitting in the back seat of a cab or taking that last shot of alcohol before leaving, you know tonight’s going to be a good night with a small recently-bought piece of plastic resting in your pocket.

This is the situation many students under twenty-one have reported before attempting to walk through the doors to a club or bar and presenting their own false identification, only to have it stripped away and, in some situations, for the students to be taken in by local authorities.

On Feb. 12, Police reportedly seized more than 20 fake ID’s at a nightclub called Third Edition near Georgetown University. This is not the only case. Situations such as these have been consistently recurring near St. Joseph’s University, specifically in neighboring Manayunk where larger raids at Castle Roxx and other neighborhood bars have previously resulted in students’ incarceration.

Other incidents such as those at the University of Oklahoma where one student manufacturing false identification for other students on campus, resulted in the seizure of his own computer by the U.S. Secret Service to trace many others involved in the crime.

Even as 2010 came to a close, police forces such as the Tempe Police Department of Arizona had seized nearly 2,100 different fake IDs from underage drinkers near labeled “party schools” such as Arizona State University.

According to the Director of Public Safety, John Henfey, “What has been happening recently on a national level is that U.S. Customs postal inspectors have intercepted shipments of large quantities of fraudulent driver’s licenses that are being mailed to actual students at their university on campus residences. That is something [that] has been occurring recently on a national level as well as locally here.”

“It’s not just something that only happens in Pennsylvania,” said Anthony Thompson, ’14. “I think it’s quite clear that being able to drink legally is something many college kids want across the U.S. and a fake ID is the next best thing.”

Henfey described that, while the federal government was overseeing a wider investigation, they were also contacting local authorities, whom have contacted schools such as St. Joe’s.

“These are local authorities, but all a part of a national overall U.S. Customs operation that is trickling down…to their own jurisdictions,” Henfey stated. “Customs has recently realized that they have seen an increase in these documents coming from an outside country into the United States.”

Many students are willing to go to great lengths to get any form of false identification.

“They’re becoming more common on campus, I’ve seen a lot of people who can spend somewhere from 120 to 200 dollars to get a fake ID,” stated Matthew Wylie, ’14. “I think kids feel like there aren’t as many parties around SJU and they just want to get alcohol quicker.”

“I have a fake ID,” stated one business major who chose to remain anonymous. “Honestly, fake IDs are a huge commodity; there will always be a huge market for false identification. You can always catch one guy, but the market will always be there.”

Websites such as buyfakeidonline.com, 21overnight.com, theidshop.com, idchief.com and many more offer forms of identificationandare being dubbed “novelty products” while others declare them to be illegal forms of false identification.

These websites have still not been shut down by any governments; however, there have been repeated reports of different forms of false identification being mailed from China to the United States and being stopped by U.S. Customs Agents.

“What it boils down to is that students are being provided a site to go to,” said Henfey. “They place an order and receive a shipment of upwards of 100 or more drivers licenses for individuals that they coordinated with to get the fraudulent documents.”

Yet, according to St. Joe’s students, there are many ways to obtain false identification at a college campus without importing them from foreign countries.

“I have a fake—many people do,” stated an anonymous computer science major. “The demand is high at St. Joe’s because we are in the city. Really, they can be made very easily; all it requires is a basic Photoshop knowledge and a good printer. With the Internet you can find all of these materials to make a fake ID anywhere, even on eBay. Any college kid could do it anywhere; every college campus has a couple of kids that do it, this college isn’t an exception.”

However, Henfey stated that there have been no reported incidents of fraudulent identification being manufactured on campus.

Some students reported learning how to manufacture false identification by using the Internet.

“The Internet has definitely made methods of obtaining a fake ID much easier,” stated Thompson. “Anyone can find out where to buy one or how to make one now, all you need is a computer and access to the Internet.”

“We haven’t had the case come up where people are making their own fake ID’s but I believe it is in the very high end of the sanction spectrum,” Bill Bordak, assistant director of community standards stated. “If they are making these it would have a real high impact on our community and we would react strongly to it.”

“I think there’s a lot of fake ID’s on campus; I hear people talk about them, show them off and they know the people to go to in order to get them,” said Joe Lacitignola, ’14. “I think fake ID’s are wrong and stupid; the cons of getting caught just outweigh the pros.”

Getting caught with false identification is a misdemeanor offense in the United States; penalties vary from state to state but can include: suspension of one’s (real) driver’s license, jail time, fines and community service. Furthermore, this also applies to any real IDs borrowed from any other person as well.

“The only thing we have encountered are fraudulent drivers licenses,” stated Henfey. “Whenever we get a wallet, a pocketbook or purse turned in, we inventory the contents and a lot of times we find multiple forms of identification indicating a different date of birth and actual date of birth.”

Henfey added that local authorities are never contacted when false identification is found. Instead, it is all handled internally within the university.

Bordak described how if a student was found with false identification, they would be notified by Public Safety first, then the Office of Community standards would contact them. This would then lead to an individual hearing, usually presided over by area coordinators, who meet with the student, have one-on-one conversations and review the student’s case.

In some states this has become a felony, thus meaning more jail time, higher fines, harsher punishment, restrictions on the right to vote and own a gun, and are considered a criminal act.

“Our whole philosophy of our office is education, and we take every opportunity we can to have a conversation as a student and help him or her understand not just that it was wrong but why it was wrong,” stated Bordak. “I always see my role as helping students to make an educated decision.”

http://www.sjuhawknews.com/news/students-fake-id-s-stopped-at-u-s-customs-1.2010718

So think twice about getting a Fake ID because between US Customs, Fake ID Readers and Good Human Fake ID Checkers, the risks may not be worth the rewards.

Definition of terms:

ID Scanner Bar

A Bar ID Scanner is used at a Bar typically at the front door when a band or event is being held and then moved to the bar when less busy. When at the Bar, the bartender uses the ID Scanner to check IDs when a patron appears under 30 years old and is done to ensure correct age calculation and document the process for affirmative defense in the event a Fake, borrowed, or alter ID is used. A Bar ID Scanner typically has built in batteries.

ID Scanner Club

A Club ID Scanner is almost always used at the front door and is typically used by the security department. When used at the front door, antipassback features used to detect duplicate or shared IDs are important as are VIP (Very Important People) /Banned or Watch List features. The VIP / Banned feature is used to identify individuals who are welcome or not welcome at the establishment. Typically troublemakers are banned and owner friends / big spenders are classified or marked as VIPs. A ID Scanner Club always has built in batteries.
